how i feel every time Haim appear in the media
alyssamcbutts asked: Hi! Was the film you were talking about in "Intersex" called "Me, My Sex, and I"? If not, you should definitely look it up! It really makes you think about what really defines men and women.
Hello! no, it was called “intersextion” here’s a link to what it’s about :) http://fringefilmfest.com/2013-programme/saturday-13th-april-2013/intersexion but thank you for this suggestion, I’m definitely going to look it up!>
Today was big because I watched a groundbreaking film about intersex people (please note: this word is autocorrected on mac) which I thought was released about 10 years ago but was told it was released in 2012. It took 20 years to make it. It involved intersex adults being interviewed from across the world who had experienced different ways of being brought up. Many undertook operations throughout their childhood to “correct” their genitalia. It also covered intersex people who had never undergone surgery. The people with surgery had traumatic stories, whilst the ones left to bide by nature were mostly happy with their lives. An intersex (CANNOT BELIEVE I’M STILL CORRECTING THE AUTOCORRECT OF THIS) person is someone who is born with ambiguous genitalia - neither “fully” male or female. This affects 1 in 2,000 people. That’s more than people with cerebral palsy : our guest lecturer told us its as common as redheads. Think how many redheads you see in a day! It was just so eyeopening and groundbreaking and I feel so motivated and excited to hopefully be part of a movement of making intersex people heard in society. Think how many times on the internet you have to select Male or Female without thinking; transexuals are making the choice, but intersexuals have to abide by boxes that don’t even consider their natural states.
There was a heartbreaking story of a man who was “mutated” by doctors at a young age to make him female despite later realising he was not getting periods and didn’t feel “like a girl”. He now has no reproductive organs, nothing on the outside, no vagina, no penis, and no pleasure. He accepted he will grow old with no one. It was so heartbreaking! The majority of these intersex people who had their genitalia mutated at a young age now have no sexual feeling which I found really distressing. They felt robbed by the doctors who cut them.
Another intersex person was in fact fully XX chromosome (female) when born, but their vagina was closed, and their clitoris larger than usual. The doctor made this person male; he underwent many operations of which completely mutated him. At the age of 44 he learnt he had always had a vagina. Imagine learning at that age you’re another gender! He was great, I hope he’s a comedian in life outside the documentary because his comebacks to answers of intersex were brilliant.
I’m sorry for how long this is but I’m really not. I cannot believe how long it’s taken for this to come out in public. Imagine having a child and you not being aware that this could occur, just like downs or cerebral palsy, after birth? So many young scared parents would opt for the doctors to do gender reassignment surgery but is this really helping? Of course for society’s sake the child has to be raised as female or male. But until puberty, or even after, genitalia don’t play a role in this. So let’s leave it to them to decide - a newborn having their genitalia mutated is immoral and wrong. I know this is 4.30am but I still cannot get over this and if you want more information on the film please message me, it really is great.
Oh by the way I found the trailer for it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVmPJVPLP-U
Lots of love xxx>
I also got called out at a Christmas dinner party that it’s been “rumoured” I’m a feminist. Is there even any point in trying to make chauvinists become aware of true feminism (even if they are mostly joking and you’re aware of this too and want them to realise you know they’re joking but also show them you are really passionate about this subjet) at a dinner party? Half the time I’m like WOO FEMINIST the other half I’m like “f***kk bItchEz GeT MonEy” so what’s it gonna be? Can’t moan at people guys who make fun when I do it myself.
It’s like the whole Black people saying Nigga v White people saying Nigga debate all over again>
the day after you stole my heart everything I touched told me it would be better shared with you
and now you’re hiding in my soup.
and this book reveals your face.
and you’re splashing in my eyelids.
